Mrs. Tigner's Biography:

I have been a teacher in the Northern Local School District for 21 years! I hold a current Ohio Teaching License: Kindergarten - 8th grade. I am a graduate of The Ohio State University, where I received both my Master's (M.ED.) Degree +18, and my Bachelor of Science in Education Degree. I'm also the Varsity Cheerleading Coach at SHS, and teach English as a second language online to children in China!

I have two children. My daughter, Sierra, is a Graphic Designer/ Art Director, with a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree, working full time for an Advertising Agency in Manhattan, New York City. My son, Trey, is a college student at Ohio University pursuing his Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

I have and set high expectations for all my students' to reach their full potential by engaging in active learning in the 21st century classroom, integrated with extension activities using technology, the four learning modalities, project-based, and hands-on learning.

I enjoy teaching, spending time with my family, coaching, weight training/working out, watching OSU football, swimming, and dancing!

Mrs. Tigner's Teaching Philosophy- (PBL)

My personal teaching philosophy is (PBL), Project Based Learning. Academic learning must begin with motivation and inspiration. Students deserve an educator's passion for the subject at hand and learning as a whole. The student's energy and enthusiasm increases due to a teacher's genuine intensity for learning, because everyone is ready and willing to participate in active learning!

To achieve active learning, a teacher must demonstrate enthusiasm, and express confidence in the students' abilities to learn and be successful! Implementing constructivist methods of teaching in a classroom forces students' to take an active role in their education by making choices and assuming responsibility for intelligent inquiry and discovery. For example, discussions, projects, activities, and experiments ensure student achievement and allow students' and the teacher to discover individual preferences and strengths. This approach facilitates differentiated activities and learning modalities: visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile for each students' distinctive ambitions, making the subject more relevant to every students' life! PBL is the teaching philosophy I use to teach. I look forward to a fun hands-on year with your child engaging in active learning!
